Fencing Options

Many homeowners want the outside of their homes to signal the style and décor visitors will find when they enter. If your property requires a fence for a pool or you want a fence for your pets or just for aesthetic reasons, one of the first things a visitor will notice is fencing.

Fencing is available in various shapes, patterns, and sizes. Fences serve many purposes for the homeowner, and including one in a new home plan or renovation plan is something all homeowners should consider.

TYPES OF FENCES

Wood Fencing

Classic wood is a style of fencing that has been around practically forever and that is still widely loved and appreciated today. Wood fencing is also one of the most affordable fencing options.

Perhaps the best quality of wood fencing is its durability. The wood used for fencing is typically high quality, and with proper maintenance, a wood fence can last for many years.

Aluminum Fencing

What aluminum fencing lacks in durability, it more than makes up for in attractiveness. Aluminum fences are some of the most sophisticated fencings available. They are also easy to find in stock, and installation is typically easy as well. Ease of maintenance is also a strong suit for aluminum fences. However, they may not provide the security that other kinds of fencing do. If you’re considering aluminum, you’ll have to decide if you’re willing to sacrifice security for a beautiful appearance and easy care.

Vinyl Fencing

Vinyl fencing has grown in popularity over the last several years, thanks to some noteworthy features. According to many reliable sources, vinyl fences are stronger, more durable, and as effective as almost any other type of fence. They are also easy to maintain, exude class, and are resistant to damage and vandalism. The upfront costs associated with vinyl fencing are higher, but homeowners typically find the expense worth the benefits.  Today, vinyl fencing is also available in many colors beyond white.

Electric Fencing

Most people who use electric fencing do so to keep their dog or dogs within the bounds of their own property.  A battery-powered collar receives a signal from the electrical unit that powers the fencing. Maintaining such a fence is pretty simple, as long as the wiring doesn’t get tangled and any digging or lawn work neither interferes with nor cuts through the usually buried wiring.

GATE OPTIONS

Most styles of fencing offer numerous gate options, including the following:

Sliding Gate

Particularly popular in upscale neighborhoods, sliding fence gates represent class, poise, and style. They’re the perfect way to welcome visitors to your home. Unlike conventional gates, sliding gates open from the middle, with panels that move to the left and right. Some sliding gates can also be opened and closed automatically—with the touch of a button.

Vertical Pivot Gate

The most expensive gate option of all is the vertical pivot gate. This type of gate opens in a way that is vastly different from other fence gates. A vertical pivot gate has electronic sensors that lift automatically lift the gate open any time the sensors are tripped by an approaching vehicle.

Automatic Gate

Just like sliding gates, an automatic gate is one of the most frequently purchased, and many people prefer it to the former. Automatic gates are used in just about every business you can think of, and that’s because they’re pretty easy to maintain and control, and they get the job done. While automatic gates are usually attached to a main power source, they typically come up with back-up batteries and work 24/7—even when the power is out.
